We had the morning free in Athens since we did not board the ship till 2:00. So we went to the National Archaeological Museum. Lots of beautiful things, of course: the golden treasures of Mycenae and a sizeable Egyptian section. I liked this grave marker of a young man with his father looking sorrowfully on

There were many statues, the best of which had been discovered in modern times on shipwrecks.
